The anger was a little surprising. The overall sentiment wasn’t. A few years ago, I got chatting to an elite female athlete at an international event, a conversation I think of anytime the debate ignites over the eligibility rules for women’s sport.

We talked about what was, at that time, the increasing prevalence on medal rostrums of those who’d gone through male puberty, with all the performance advantages that instils.
