Tyrone had won three All-Irelands by that stage but they always took the league seriously. Despite all they had won, I asked Mickey if he’d like to win another league title. “Oh aye, Anthony, I surely would,” said Mickey. “But I wouldn’t like to be flat out winning it.”
A league title was always a huge ambition in Clare, but I still always held that core attitude of Mickey’s, because I could completely relate to what he was referring to. When we lost the league final to Kilkenny in 1995, we were gutted.
