Stints coaching the Tipperary footballers and club sides such as Boherlahan and Clonoulty-Rossmore followed; so did an All-Ireland Colleges win with St Joseph’s CBS. Then John Allen invited him in to coach the Limerick hurlers.

“I was always interested in the coaching of other sports, how they were coached — basketball in particular,” he says.
