Trying to beat Frankel is just a waste of time

I’ve seen just about every top-class flat horse from Nijinsky to Sea The Stars, but after watching Frankel at York on Wednesday I have to put Henry Cecil’s colt up as the greatest of all time.

Frankel had never gone beyond a mile until York and so there was always going to be a nagging doubt as to whether he would get an extra two furlongs plus.

The betting on Betfair was huge and when I stopped watching, shortly before the start, almost €8m had been matched on the race.
