Punters have little cause for optimism

PUNCHESTOWN so far this week has been nothing short of a minefield for punters and today promises more of the same.

Punters have little cause for optimism

There is little cause for optimism, with the featured Grade 1 Ladbrokes.com World Series Hurdle having a wide-open appearance.

Quevega, who shapes as if she will stay three miles, gets the nap to continue a terrific week for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. The six-year-old produced a stunning display, considering it was her first run of the season, to land the David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham.

She stripped in rude good health to outclass subsequent winner, Carole’s Legacy (rec. 5lbs), by an easy four and a half lengths.

Mullins also runs Mourad and Cousin Vinny. Mourad would surely prefer softer ground, while Cousin Vinny doesn’t look good enough.

Powerstation ran a cracker to fill third behind Big Buck’s and Time For Rupert at Cheltenham and should run another big race. Karabak was fourth in that Stayers’ Hurdle, a below-par effort, but didn’t display a whole lot of enthusiasm and is passed over.

Enda Bolger’s L’Ami should land the four miles and three furlongs Avon Ri Corporate and Leisure Resort La Touche Cup.

He failed by two and a half lengths to concede A New Story 25lbs in a handicap at Cheltenham, but this is easier.

Psycho gets a tentative nod in the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase, having won well of late at Clonmel and Fairyhouse.

The far better ground will not be a problem and Tony Martin’s progressive nine-year-old does jump for fun.

Bishopsfurze, seventh behind Cue Card at Cheltenham, could be another for Willie Mullins in the Bumper.
