Cad can collect

WILLIE MULLINS’ Cadspeed can get off the mark at the third time of asking over flights in the Christmas Party Maiden Hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

Cad can collect

An obvious worry is the fact some of Mullins’ inmates are reported to be coughing and his hot-pot, Quinola Des Obeaux, stopped to nothing at Navan last Saturday.

There is simply not enough evidence at the moment, however, to desert horses from this quarter and, hopefully, today will not mean having to pay to discover they are indeed collectively under the weather!

Cadspeed has been frustrating since being launched over jumps. He was said to be literally catching pigeons prior to making his seasonal debut at Down Royal last month. A big market mover, he never promised to deliver, trailing in a well beaten seventh behind Coole River.

The selection then reappeared at Navan 15 days later and managed somehow to turn what appeared to be certain victory into shattering defeat.

He was a good three lengths clear coming away from the final flight, but was mugged close home and beaten half a length by Bostons Angel.

That form is ordinary, but it took Cadspeed two pops last season to hit top gear and he then proceded to run away with two bumpers.

Paul Kristian, having a first outing for Mullins and a particularly interesting sort, gets the vote in the Bumper.

He used to be in the care of Liam Burke and hasn’t been seen for 635 days, not since taking second to Let Yourself Go in a maiden hurdle at Limerick in March of last year.

The stewards took a dim view of the display and rider, Kevin Coleman, was suspended for 50 days and Burke’s explanation, regarding the running and riding of the then five-year-old, was noted.

Paul Kristian’s travels in the betting will be important, but he has to be the choice in a very weak heat, with the possible exception of Noel Meade’s newcomer, Figairy.

Nipper John, competing off a mark 20lbs below his rating over fences, could crop up in the www.fairyhouseracecourse.ie Handicap Hurdle.
