In August 2004, only a couple of weeks after the Clare side I was then managing were beaten in an All-Ireland quarter-final replay by Kilkenny, I was in Ballygarvan in Cork for a presentation of a replica Liam MacCarthy Cup.

I was one of a whole host of All-Ireland winning captains, with family relatives of every deceased captain going back to 1921 accepting the beautiful piece of Waterford crystal on their behalf.
