Not long after Waterford lost the 2021 All-Ireland semi-final to Limerick, and shortly after Liam Cahill had quelled all speculation that he was to take over Tipperary once Liam Sheedy had stepped away, Cahill did an interview with Tomás McCarthy on WLR's Lár Na Páirce show to outline his reasons for staying with Waterford.

“This year is a big, big year for these players, it’s a big year for me and the management team,” he said. “Ultimately, there’ll be no stone left unturned to make sure that silverware is delivered this year of some sort.”
