John Fogarty: Kildare row might be blow for free press

In an anxious time for Kildare football, emotions are going to run high and with relegation fears growing, there is the potential for further debate at next month’s board meeting.

As two friends fell out in front of the Kildare dressing room in Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday evening, the irony was the individual at the centre of the disagreement wasn’t present.

Of course, Kildare’s dreadful form has played its part too but county chairman Mick Gorman did say what he was reported to have said by Tommy Callaghan, the widely-respected sports editor of The Leinster Leader. The Kildare Nationalist corroborated his account as has another who was in attendance at the county board meeting in Allenwood on February 5 to this journalist.
