Where space is maximised in an already generously proportioned house you really get room to relax. No 4 Courtwood in Garryduff near Rochestown is a five-bed
detached home with plenty room to ‘play with’. Everything from underfloor heating to 9ft ceiling heights across the ground floor add to a feeling of spaciousness.

The good-sized utility room, with access to the back of the house, makes the kitchen/dining a more ‘chill’ zone. And there’s a separate living room and sitting room to allow for different movies or music.

“This house is such a lovely job. It’s only just on the market this week and will be very popular,” points out Stuart O’Grady of Sherry Fitzgerald.

Owners Brian and Ana Buckley have enjoyed decorating and adding some very original touches here.

“Well my wife, Ana who’s from Portugal, is 100% the one with the creative eye for sure,” concedes Mr Buckley.

From the modern blue kitchen units with the brushed metal accents to the cosy living area corners delineated by calming green paintwork, there are a lot of ‘favourite spots’ in this 2,500sq ft property. “My personal favourite is the back garden — it’s our go-to area from May to at least September.”

Though it might be tough getting kids to go outside once they catch a glimpse of the attic playroom or even the bedroom containing a London bus. “Our son loved buses from an early age and a bus trip is always one of the first things we do when we go away so this was fun way to decorate alright. The attic was a storage space for a few years but Ana did that up too and it became ‘playdate central’.”

Two of the five bedrooms are en suite and one is in use as a home office.

“It’s an absolutely great area with everything from the Garryduff woods to the gym at Maryborough and Douglas Golf Club. And you have Mount Oval very close by too.”

VERDICT: A great location within a 10-15 minute drive of Cork city centre, Mahon Point shopping centre and Douglas village.
