COUPLES already living in Carrigtwohill who are hankering after a detached home are among the early birds making enquiries about Lencrew, a well-maintained 1970s bungalow on quite an enviable site.

It’s not the best time of year for showcasing outdoor space, but it’s pretty obvious that whoever lived at Lencrew put a lot of store by the garden.

They could enjoy it from the out-of-sight elevated patio, framed by redbrick arches and walls.

There’s a rural feel to the setting, but actually it’s quite close to Carrigtwohill village and even closer to the IDA Business and Technology Park, which is over the back wall. A screen of trees shields Lencrew from the wheels of industry.

Adrianna Hegarty of Hegarty Properties is selling the four-bed home and she says bungalows always generate interest because so few are being built.

“There’s so few on the market, that when they do come up, they’re in high demand,” the agent says. An offer of €450,000 came in this week, well ahead of the €415,000 guide.

Accommodation includes two reception rooms, a kitchen/dining room; four bedrooms and a guest loo, main bathroom and shower room.

The site size means further expansion is possible, subject to planning consent.

Ms Hegarty says families looking will be pleased to learn that there’ s a creche next door.

“Moreover, kids can walk to school, and both the bus stop and an Aldi supermarket are just five minutes away.”

Ms Hegarty adds that the garden faces southwest and is not overlooked.

Of the house itself, she says it’s been “carefully maintained, with clear scope to modernise”.

Carrigtwohill has good connectivity thanks to a regular light rail service and good road routes to Cork City and it’s a strong employment base.

VERDICT: The secluded setting and site size make this an attractive proposition for families. Downsizers will like the single-storey aspect and the convenience to the village.
