AS winsome and rugged a spot as you could wish for, this traditional stone-faced cottage in Ballinacarriga, Garnish, Allihies is whipping up an internet storm.

Bought by Germans in the 1990s, they did just enough to ensure their Irish summer bolthole with its flagstone floors met their basic holiday needs – anything more would have been a distraction from the knockout views.
Overlooking the wild Atlantic, on the tip of the Beara Peninsuala, taking in views of Dursey Island, Lambs Head and as far as Skellig Michael off the Kerry coast, the 97 sq m former farmhousege, with conservatory and a wood burning stove in the living room, is where those savy Germans spent all of their summers, 15 minutes from Allihies village and from Ballydonegan Beach.

“Every year they loaded up the car and drove from Berlin,” says selling agent Ron Krueger of Engel & Voelkers.
He’s guiding the two-bed at €295,000 and advises that it “needs a bit of work”, with scope also to extend – but really, why would you?

German house hunters are leading the charge of interested buyers, along with Americans and our own domestic market. Cork Airport is just over a two-hour drive.
Mr Krueger says interest is off the charts.

Utterly unspoilt location. The cottage could be sold, by the time you’ve read this.
