This three-bed mid-terrace property at 4 Sandy Cove Beach Villas at Owenahincha looks like the perfect spot to spend the long hot summer days that we are all hoping to have.

“Located just a one-minute walk from Owenahincha beach, it’s part of a development of 20 holiday homes built in the early 2000s,” says Ray O’Neill of Sherry FitzGerald O’Neill who thinks it could appeal to buyers looking to spend their retirement near the sea as well as those who want to spend holidays swimming and surfing in West Cork.

New to the market with a guide of €295,000, it has a front balcony with sea views from the side. “It’s been very well maintained by the owners who bought it around 10 years ago and have used it as a family holiday home,” says Mr O’Neill.

Offering 103 sq m of living space, the property has an open-plan kitchen/dining/living space room with a white shaker-style kitchen at the front and a living area with timber flooring and a fireplace at the rear. There’s also a guest WC and, on the upper level, a bathroom and three bedrooms including one with a balcony.

Fitted with double-glazed windows, it has a C1 BER.

Located 10km from Clonakilty and 3km from Rosscarbery, the property is close to several beaches including Warren Strand and Long Strand in Castlefreke.

VERDICT: Beach proximity is the key attraction.

Highly affordable for an East Cork buyer, No 11 Liam Heffernan Terrace in Castlemartyr is a two-bed semi with a guide of €210,000.

Built in the 1970s it’s been redecorated and modernised in recent years with a new shaker-style kitchen and an upgraded bathroom. Although the owners have replaced the windows at the front, the house has a G BER and this will need to be improved by new owners.

VERDICT: An affordable first home.

Expected to sell quickly, this three-bed semi at 4 Ros Ard, Glanmire, secured a bid of its €305,000 asking price after its first day of viewings.

On the market for just a week, it’s a 2005-built property located a little over 5km from Glanmire village.

“It’s a very well-maintained owner-occupied home,” says Jean Shanahan of DNG Murphy Condon who sold it to its current owners a few years ago.

Accommodation includes a timber-floored living room with a stone-clad chimney breast fitted with a modern electric fire. To the rear there’s a kitchen/diner with herringbone flooring and modern grey units and, off the hallway, there’s also a guest WC/utility room.

Upstairs the property has a bathroom and three bedrooms including one en suite.

Situated in a cul de sac of four houses at the start of the Ros Ard development, it has a paved parking area at the front and south-facing garden with a patio at the rear.

“It’s in a rural setting with countryside views at the front but is within easy reach of a range of local services including a primary school, The Boothouse Bar, and a local gym,” says Ms Shanahan.

It’s located around 8km from St Patrick’s Bridge in the city centre and around the same distance from the Dunkettle Interchange.

Recent nearby sales include that of No 3 Ros Ard which sold for €315,000 in March last year. This one, No 4, sold for €260,000 in November 2020.

VERDICT: Modern, well-kept, three-bed semis in this price range don’t tend to stay long on the market.

This two-bed ground-floor apartment at 71 Tivoli Woods could be of interest to both young home-hunting couples and investors.

Seeking offers of €255,000 Gillian McDonnell of Sherry FitzGerald Cork says it’s a well-maintained, recently repainted and re-carpeted property. Located in a 2001-built apartment complex, it’s 4km from the city centre.

Its “location, condition, and attractive return” will make it attractive to investors, says Ms McDonnell.

VERDICT: Affordable and convenient.
