GERMANS have long been smitten by the dramatic panoramas of West Cork and even more so in recent years in light of Russia’s continent-unsettling war with Ukraine.

Many Americans have a love affair with Ireland too, some of whom are casting their net in this direction rather than face the prospect of another Trump presidency.

So it is that Ron Krueger of Engel & Völkers is fielding a slew of overseas enquiries about an exceptional 22.5-acre landholding with an extended and renovated farmhouse, in Trafask, just outside Glengarriff village, with breathtaking views over to Bantry Bay.

A more tranquil antidote to the stresses of modern life would be hard to find, and for pony lovers, it comes with a four-stable block and an enclosed paddock. A large barn, says Mr Krueger, is ideal for storing animal feed/other livestock, or it could be a studio/workshop. The land is mainly rough grazing “ideal for goats and sheep”, the agent says.

The house that comes with it started out as a traditional farmhouse but was renovated and extended by the owner, who bought it last year, and turned it into a contemporary home designed to maximise the views, particularly from the patio, accessed via sliding doors from the kitchen/dining room. A cosy traditional living room has a woodburning stove and there’s a shower room, a bathrooms a bedroom, a utility and a store on the ground floor, as well as a back lounge, which could be a fourth bedroom. Two overhead bedrooms have wonderful countryside views.

Mr Krueger says the German and US markets “are very active at the moment” with some Irish interest too.

The 155 sq m house, he says, is in “a beautiful coastal setting...centrally located between the villages of Adrigole and Glengarriff”, bothof which are a c 11 minute drive away. Bantry town is half an hour by car.

For overseas buyers, Cork Airport is about an hour and a half drive from scenic Glengarriff. Leisure activities in this unspoilt countryside include sailing, fishing, golfing, hillwalking, swimming, surfing and horse-riding.

VERDICT: Ready-to-go bolthole in an area of great natural beauty.
