How to choose energy-efficient lightbulbs

For character lamps with retro-style bulbs, you will need to replace these with what is termed filament bulbs when they fail. You can use screw-in bulbs that stand in the place of shades and regular light fittings. They are generally anti-glare low-lumen bulbs with small E27 fittings, so work best in groups.

The fitting for most bulbs, with rare exceptions outside a domestic setting, are bayonet, screw and spotlight. If you’re confused, bring your old bulb with you when buying in person, especially with screw types.
