Gardening: How to protect your plants as the first frosts arrive

As the nights draw in, it’s time to clean your greenhouse, bring in tender plants to protect them from frost, and sow winter vegetables.
Some tender perennials will survive in an unheated greenhouse if the winter isn’t too cold and the greenhouse remains frost-free, including pelargoniums, marguerites and standard fuchsias.
