Wish List: From sleek seating to a curvaceous cocktail caddy

Every now and again something different comes along. The magnificently ornate Kashgai velvet you see on this piece of furniture was specially created for the delectable Bloomsbury loveseat it now adorns.

The term "Kashgai" may or may not have been inspired by the word "Qashqai", which has for so long been associated with intricately patterned carpets, hand woven by a tribe of the same name.

Either way, this fabric’s interlacing flowers and looping vines have been deftly upholstered to the seat’s handcrafted frame, so that it looks as though it’s covered with an antique rug.

Capacious proportions make this a cosy space for two, or an opulent option for one.

And there’s more that’s good: For each item sold, House of Hackney promises to purchase and protect 35 square metres of forest, courtesy of their partnership with World Land Trust.

Kashgai Bloomsbury Loveseat. Made to order, it’s priced at €5,393.25, from House of Hackney.

CURVACEOUS CABINET

Curves are one of the hottest new trends in furniture design. But it’s rare to find a piece that is as curvaceous as this art deco cocktail cabinet. With its sassy, demi-lune shape and 1930s vintage, we’d call it a splendacious work of art. To Mary Doherty, who’s selling, it’s more than that. To her, it’s "strikingly handsome, one of a kind, Jacques."

She has a point: The upper cabinet carries the original painted, mirrored interior, with added motion-sensor lights in black. The colour continues to the inside doors, which have been coated with coal-black mineral paint.

Tucked away in the lower cabinet, is a pair of wine glass racks. Also, a bottle caddy, a shelf and a tray in tempered glass. The original veneer along the half-moon front has been stripped, restored, updated and oiled, to showcase a rich, walnut grain. It’s €2,695, from MD Serendipity Design.

PERFECT PITCHER

With its ornate leaf detail, and silver-tone metal handle, this glass jug is simply sumptuous in style. Given that this is a vessel of choice for serving water, juice or cocktails, it’s important to know that it’s up to the job — and it very much is.

Despite the air of delicacy that any glass jug may exude, this charming pitcher has a metal handle that is reassuringly deemed "sturdy" by its able creators.

As for the pretty silver tone plating, this boasts a protective, anti-tarnish layer, making the jug perfect, not just for entertaining, but for everyday use. From Newbridge Silverware, it’s €69.43.

MAGICAL MILESTONE

This year marks a centennial milestone for the Bugatti family, it being one hundred years since the five brothers: Giuseppe, Giovanni, Faustino, Giacinto and Amadio, first opened their workshop in the Italian town of Lumezzane.

To this day, Bugatti is celebrated for its glamorous tableware, and with this lavish Optical cutlery set, the brand treads the line between classic and contemporary with masterful ease.

Offering 24 pieces of the finest Italian tableware, the set, with its circular, retro-inspired pattern, partners crisp stainless steel with a moulded handle in a pastel hue.

Also, a chrome ring finished with a vintage-inspired antiqued effect. It’s priced at £245 (approximately €283), from Harrods.

HEAVENLY HEADBOARD

Headboards can be glorious when they’re beautifully shaped. This one is particularly splendid, having great height, dramatic design, and grandiose curves and corners. Refreshingly, it’s a headboard that provides a focal point in a bedroom.

That’s something we don’t often see.

This one makes a bed inviting at first glance. Of course, you can bring even more individuality to yours, by choosing the size and style.

Also, by selecting the upholstery from four fabulous fabric collections. This one is a Valentina in Monet Winter. It’s also handcrafted and Irish-made. Available from Finline Furniture, it’s €640.

NEW CHAPTERS

It’s lovely to give a new home to a much-loved antique. Particularly when it’s a high-quality, Victorian mahogany piece of refined proportions. This bookcase is precisely that and more.

It can be used as a kitchen press, or a cófra of sorts, anywhere in the home. Whether you use it as is, or revamp it, its intrinsic elegance will remain unchanged. There’s rolled glass on the cabinet windows and sound craftsmanship all round.

Also, a movable shelf system that’s well crafted, the old-fashioned way. As you might expect, there are some signs of wear, such as bubbling.

But somehow, that just adds to the character and aesthetic of this entirely elegant piece. It’s €790, from Find, Cow’s Lane, Dublin.

POTTERY PIECES

Bringing beauty into the everyday with handmade and hand-decorated pottery, is the stated philosophy of Pottery Corner, according to Marta Klimek. The pieces she sells are inspired by the pottery-making traditions of the Polish city of Boleslawiec which date back to the 14th century.

Marta, the brain behind the Dublin-based family business, describes herself as "just a Polish girl, who fell in love with Polish pottery while living in Ireland, and wanted to share this pottery with the people here".

Marta says this loaf pan is perfect for baking banana bread and apple crumble — also, small portions of lasagne and fish pie. Microwave, dishwasher, and oven-safe up to 280C, it’s also perfect as a serving dish. It’s €38, from Pottery Corner.

TIME OUT

No matter the time of year, or the time of day it’s always a joy to gently sway outdoors. For this, we love a swing seat. Cork-born carpenter Conor McSweeney and his French wife Lauralice are the dynamic duo behind Tábla Design.

Their ultra-swanky garden swing seat is made in Ireland. Its cushions — which are removable — are handmade locally in Macroom, Co Cork.

Even the timber, which is European oak, is sourced in Ireland. Conveniently, this swing chair is freestanding, so you can place it wherever you choose in the garden. There’s a personal feel to these hand-crafted swings, as each one is made bespoke. Yours for €3,500 from Tábla Design.
