Getting creative while staying home: Online workshops that should be a hit with all ages

We may all have had a sneaky go at air-guitar playing, but what about crafting a real-life musical instrument yourself from scratch? If that hits a bum note, perhaps designing a pair of snazzy earrings or becoming your own interiors expert and redecorating your entire home is more your thing?

We may all have had a sneaky go at air-guitar playing, but what about crafting a real-life musical instrument yourself from scratch? If that hits a bum note, perhaps designing a pair of snazzy earrings or becoming your own interiors expert and redecorating your entire home is more your thing?

Get Ireland Making is a new creative project harnessing the skills and talents of Ireland’s craftspeople and designers and it brings them right into your living room -- invaluable in these stay-home times we're experiencing.

Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) has launched this series of online workshops and activities supported by Creative Ireland and Healthy Ireland.

These workshops will range from how to transform recycled materials into musical instruments to a series on jewellery-making.

The initial focus will be on “craft hacks”, providing ideas for decorating homes during Easter.

These activities will include step-by-step interactive workshops and short video tutorials broadcast on DCCI’s YouTube channel. The aim is to appeal to all ages.

Details can be found on DCCI’s website at dcci.ie/getirelandmaking and through DCCI’s and Creative Ireland’s social media platforms.

A broad range of craft disciplines, including weaving, printing, basket making, ceramics and much more will be covered during these exciting, immersive sessions. RTÉ will support the promotion of these activities also through www.rte.ie/culture and its social media channels using #createdontcontaminate.
