It’s not too late to hunt out a unique gift.previews sales in the lead-up to the festive season
One-off gifts and unusual collectible items across all price ranges give auctiongoers and collectors plenty of options in a flurry of pre-Christmas auctions.
There are sales today at Doneraile in North Cork and Newcastlewest in Co Limerick and Hegarty’s last sale before Christmas takes place in Bandon tomorrow afternoon.
Irish furniture, fine art, 18th and 19th-century glass, collectibles, jewellery and rugs will come under the hammer at Hegarty’s. Furniture highlights include a 19th-century elliptical side table and a drop-leaf hunt table. A large 19th-century Chinese export blue and white willow pattern lidded terrine with a pagoda motif and a Crown Derby three-part garniture will attract collectors of porcelain. The garniture consists of a large urn and two smaller side pieces complete with painted landscapes and signed with maker’s mark.
There is an antique Irish celery vase and a c1760 opaque wine glass. This auction is on view in Bandon from noon to 5pm today and from noon to the start of the sale at 3pm tomorrow.
Aidan Foley’s pre-Christmas auction, in Doneraile at noon today, is always a big draw. This one offers more than 500 lots, including, he said, the best selection of art ever offered at this auction. There are three large works by Arthur Maderson, a Markey Robinson and a Wycliffe Egginton included. The sale offers antique furniture, some large Persian rugs and a wide choice of small collectible items. It will be on view in Doneraile from 11am and online at Easy Live Auctions.
