On course

THE fine and decorative arts diploma course organised by the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers gets underway in October.

It offers a modern perspective of diverse topics like the history of painting, domestic architecture, interior decoration, furniture, silver and sculpture.

The course has introduced lectures on additional topics such as interior design, the role of antiques in the decoration of the home, and the history of the garden.

James O’Halloran of Adams Auctioneers will talk about the current art market.

Clare event

A team of antiques and collectibles valuers headed by George Stacpoole will be at the Lakeside Hotel, Killaloe, tomorrow afternoon.

All proceeds will go towards initiatives of the Killaloe Ballina Local History Society.

Antiques sales

The Killeshin Hotel at Ballyroan, Portlaoise, is the venue for the Laois antiques and vintage fair tomorrow.

Woodward’s says its sale on September 7 will be the best for some time.

There is a good selection of antique furniture, porcelain, Waterford Crystal and collectibles.

The catalogue will be online from August 30.

Mint role

Chairman of the Numismatic Society of Ireland Michael Kenny has been appointed external numismatic consultant to the Dublin Mint Office.

He specialises in Irish and Scottish coins and banknotes.
