The people to follow for some Insta interiors inspiration

Instagram’s 800m-plus users feature plenty of people to love from the interior world. From professionals and amateurs at home and much further afield, here’s Carol O’Callaghan’s pick of who to follow.

As a latecomer to Instagram and its 800m users, it took news of the astonishing 11m ‘likes’ on Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement photo to spur me on to use the platform to follow my favourites in design.

First up was the splendid Architectural Digest (@archdigest) and super-cool Design Milk (@designmilk) with 14m and 2.1m devotees, respectively, to view their sumptuous photos.

After that, it was a case of ferreting around for more of the same aspirational photos, but not long before I defaulted to Instagrammers who are a better match for my credo which values aesthetics but must have in-built practicality and be easy to implement.

Here are some of them...

@helenjamesdesign

If you want beautifully curated shots to inspire without intimidation, where it all feels aspirational but achievable, Helen James is one to follow.

As creative director for Dunnes Stores, she was responsible for the Considered range of tableware which proved a successful departure from the typical Dunnes look.

Viewers of RTÉ One’s Home of the Year will remember her as a judge in the first series, and she now adds an extra feather to her design cap with her book, A Sense of Home: Eat, Make, Sleep, Live (Hatchette Books), a title which could also serve as the perfect description of her lusciousInstagram feed.

@suziemcadam

Homegrown interior design talent Suzie McAdam’s photos give a glimpse into her professional projects, supplemented with shots from her international travels, where she takes in architecture and design details and other observations on her environment as she goes about her daily life.

Best of all, we get snippets of her Dublin Victorian home, and how she styles and restyles the area around her fireplace to transform the look of the room.

Add in her online alter ego of The Design Seeker and her training as an architect, and her Instagram amounts to a visual reportage on a professionally trained eye for design.

@gaffinteriors

Cork and Dublin duo, Jo Linehan andCaroline Foran are Gaff Interiors, a consultancy and blog which aims to be modern, fun and trend-driven in its interior styling.

For anyone on a budget, these girls have made a philosophy of keeping things affordable, so if you want a champagne lifestyle look on a cup of tea budget, then join 14,000 other Instagrammers who follow their constantly updated postings.

Gaff covers its own interiors projects and affordable high-street finds they uncover.

@michelle _janeen

Jetting across the Atlantic for some California cool, we meet Michelle Janeen who inspires her 90,000 followers to lust after her home near Los Angeles which she snaps regularly for our delectation.

Simultaneously, she lays on food and travel shots and captivating snaps of family fun to infect us with a dose of lifestyle envy.

For all that, her Instagram is irresistible, especially if your aspirational look is white interiors with touches of grey and muted shades from nature, and olive and eucalyptus branches carefully styled into immaculate, covetable vignettes.

@vintagecuratorinteriors

For an eclectic mix of Anglo-Gallicinterior styling, Samantha Hansard’sVintage Curator is an online product sourcing and interior design consultancy.

Based between North London and the Vendee, she brings her interior taste to life with a mixture of new and vintage furniture and accessories and offers her French house to rent, so you can test run living with the look.

For the rest of the time, her images are of home in London where rooms are photographed regularly with styling updates and rearrangements of furniture and accessories, which provide ideas for her 13,000 followers on how a room can be refreshed with a little imagination, especially if you like a fashionable grey palette.

@mybohemianhouse

Boho chic is alive and well and living in Colorado, where homemaker and small business entrepreneur Ashley Boehm has taken her personal interiors style and opened an online shop selling the things she likes and has in her own house.

Some 110,000 Instagram followers have now flocked to her and are updated regularly with pictures of her home which shows the products in situ.

It’s a boon to the shopper who struggles to visualise how an item will look at home, and there’s something charmingly less than pristine about the photos at times which makes it all look achievable.

For that we might have her smartphone camera and assistance from her two toddlers to thank.

Colorado - based My Bohemian House showcases the home of Ashley Boehm and features how to live with products available in her online shop.

To channel the cool white California interiors style, check out the Instragram of Michelle Janeen whose home warms up the look thanks to some off whites and pops of gentle hues from nature.
