A well-known independent motor business on the south side of Cork city, owned by the Hanley family for almost 60 years, is on the market with a €400,000 price guide.

The commercial property, which formerly traded as a Texaco petrol station and more recently as a motor service station known as the Lough service centre, has been trading since 1964 and is in relatively good condition for its age.

The petrol and diesel sales finished in 2004, and the necessary works to the tanks were carried out then.

For sale “as is”, selling agent Kevin O’Sullivan, of Barry Auctioneers, said they’d received “a good few calls” in the 24-hours since the property was launched, with strong local interest.

“The property has great potential for its current use and similar type uses, with quite a lot of interest already,” the agent said.

While those enquiring had not indicated potential future use for the 700sq m (about 7,535sq ft) site, Mr O’Sullivan said there is currently “huge demand” for service centres from mechanics looking for independent premises.

As the subject property is adjacent to Ryan’s Supervalu on Togher Rd, there’s also the possibility that the store operator might capitalise on the opportunity to expand.

Mr O’Sullivan said the property has “excellent road frontage” on the main road.

“There’s great potential for motor-relat[red use such as car sale or car repairs and servicing,” Mr O’Sullivan said, adding that it’s “a superb location with easy access”.

The total area of the garage building witeh ancillary retail/office services and lofted storage area is 130sq m (1400sq ft). The site is well defined, with walled in road frontage and a canopy. All services are mains and power is three phase.
