Cash in on Cork nostalgia as northside landmark Con’s Shop listed for €750k
Con's Shop 12A Gurranabraher Road Jeremy Murphy
Fair exchange is no robbery — that’s one line of appeal in the sale of a Cork northside institution with a return of close to 10%.
Con’s Shop, with an attached launderette and overhead apartment, is all on offer with a €750,000 AMV.
Known for decades as Con the Robber’s, the Gurranabraher shop was run by the late and legendary Con O’Leary, who passed away at the start of 2024, predeceased by his wife Anne who died in 2020.
The couple had four daughters and the shop is still in family hands, with a daughter taking it on back in 2008.

The mix of Con’s Shop and adjoining Pam’s Launderette (trading 22 years), both held on long leases and an overhead apartment, also let, is offered by estate agent Jeremy Murphy on behalf of the O’Leary family.
He says there’s a combined income of €71,400pa.
The shop has a 50-year trading history, having opened in 1973, and the late owner Con ‘the Robber’ O’Leary entered Cork city politics after the campaign to save the North Infirmary in the late 1980s, being elected to the city council as an independent voice for the northside, as well as being a Southern Health Board member and member of numerous local agencies, clubs, and community supports.
The investment sale with sitting tenants includes an 800 sq ft shop with 280 sq ft store, launderette, and 800 sq ft two-bed apartment, all in good order, on a corner site at Mount Nebo Avenue and Gurrananbraher Road, aka ‘Con’s Hill’ as a plaque on the shop wall proudly states.
