HOLLYWOOD recently came to the doorstep of No 22 Goldsmith’s Avenue, high above Cork city, at the top of Richmond Hill, and just past St Patrick’s Hill.

This 1880s, artisan-built end terrace two-bed home has the open green area Bells’ Field right next door to it, and Bells’ Field (and its Shandon Steeple views) featured strongly in the opening set-up shot of the madcap Cork movie Young Offenders.

It’s where the said young offenders dream of what they’d buy, or where they’d live, if they had millions in cash.

Cue the Young Offenders’ road movie mayhem on a cocaine trail, to the wilds of west Cork, with Bells’ Field as their originating ‘field of dreams.’

There’s a few runs of small Victorian-era terraced homes, such as Roches Buildings, up here atop Richmond Hill, in tiers below the army’s barracks and CBS playing fields along the western end of the Old Youghal Road.

Some houses dotted along and bookending the terraces have had some very stylish makeovers: No 22 got its own upgrades about 2011, and has been made tasty, warm and cosy with improved insulation/dry-lining, and has an open fire as well as central heating.

It’s largely open plan at ground level, with adjacent kitchen and utility, and has the smallest imaginable outdoor yard... just enough room for a smoker or two, or more healthily for a flow of fresh air.

It’s for sale this week with Gillian McDonnell of Sherry FitzGerald, who guides the en suite one-bed end-terrace home (with a former, tiny and stepped red-brick shop sort of beneath it) at €120,000, and she says it’s already getting lots of traction.

It’s near lots of schools, is a simple downhill trot to Cork’s city centre and St Patrick’s Bridge, or down to the Watercourse Road and Blackpool.

“It’s got great views over the city, and with a large public green area alongside all within a 10-minute walk of the city centre; this is a must-see,” says the agent.

VERDICT: Go for gold
