Cork's Pic du Jer back in vogue thanks to great location

THERE’S been a steady run of sales in Cork’s unusually named Pic du Jer, a network estate of semi-ds built in the mid 1900s in Ballinlough: it’s called after a high, 1,000m peak called Pic du Jer on the edge of Lourdes in France, which can be summited by a 100 year old funicular rail carriage.

Cork's Pic du Jer back in vogue thanks to great location

Cork’s Pic du Jer, or at least the Ballinlough road, is served now by the very busy and very frequent No 15 bus, which shuttles commuters to and from the city centre and Mahon, now a retail and office destination whose success in employment terms is a Cork success story (tho’ Mahon’s traffic is another tale, of woe.)

But, set close enough to walk to Cork city centre, or to Douglas, Pic du Jer is one of those older, inner suburban estates that is very much back in vogue thanks to location and well-bedded down services, and the past five years has seen a steady stream of resales.
