17 Carrigwell in Carrignavar shows commitment to ‘getting it right’

The large family home 17 Carrigwell, some 12 kilometres north of Cork city at Carrignavar, is model, and in more ways that one.

Selling agent Barry Smith of James G Coughlan Associates says in his 30 years selling property, he’s rarely seen a home with as much commitment to ‘getting it right’, irrespective of expense.

It also panders to its owner’s passion for model cars, with purpose-made and lit glass display cases showing off collectables with a bit more cachet than your average Dinky.

No 17 is far from dinky though: part-brick and part-dash faced, it’s a very decent 2,800 sq ft, on a good sized site with rear lawn, lots of concreted rear drive for car parking and car polishing, and has a shed, plus a separate garage, so full-size car loving aficionados are catered for too.

Or, just families with wheels.

Internally, No 17 is sort of Rolls Royce, with oak flooring and joinery, oak staircase, oak and gloss unit kitchen with black granite tops, high-end main bathroom with corner jetted bath, and decor levels are high-end too, but subtle and understated.

Mr Smith says it’s luxurious, and rooms include a living room with inset wood-burning stove in a white marble fireplace, a family room, a good kitchen with lots of storage and larder press, linking to a dining room and then a sun-room, rear porch, utility and guest WC.

Overhead one of the four, carpeted and hushed four bedrooms is en suite, and this main bedroom also has a useful window seat fashioned into its bay window, with storage underneath.

Bed four currently is used as a home office, and has a wall of spot-lit display cases for a huge and colourful collection of model cars.

The asking price of €375,000 equates to €130 or so per square foot, and if this home were transported from its Carrignavar setting to the suburbs, buyers would be expected to shell out €500,000 or so for the same quality, depending on the suburb.

Carrigwell’s location is just off Main Street, Carrignavar, and is near Whitechurch, all-in about a 15 minute spin or so from Cork city – in a real car.
