Tommy Barker hears about the strong GAA connections of this well-placed, well-ordered property in a Montenotte setting.

Starter home: Montenotte, Cork €185,000

Size: 75 sq m (807 sq ft)

Bedrooms: 2

Bathrooms: 1

BER: N/A

Best Feature: There’s a rooted Cork GAA connection to the sale of 8 Brian Dillon’s Crescent in Cork city’s Montenotte/Dillon’s Cross/St Luke’s area.

The terrace’s name recalls the locality’s long established Brian Dillon’s GAA club.

No 8’s owner/vendor is a sister of former county and Bantry Blues footballing star Mark O’Connor whom she bought No 8 from, and its selling agent Alan Browne is a former Cork inter-county hurler.

Yet, when Mr Browne started an open viewing here Tuesday night, he had a veritable scrum of 20-plus people passing through, with nary a ball-hopper between them. It was serious viewings, of a lovely pitch to call home.

Set in a cul de sac handful of terraced homes by St Anne’s Drive and Montenotte post office, No 8 Brian Dillon’s Crescent is small, well-placed and perefectly formed, with all of its original early 1900s features enhanced: each of the two bedrooms for example has a retained cast-iron fireplace, painted white, as does the front living room and the rear kitchen/dining space, and all rooms have sanded and varnished original pine floors.

It’s in very good order, with a main tiled bathroom which is quite spacious for a home of just over 800 sq ft, and quirkily there’s an old, blue-painted (for Bantry Blues?) cast iron bath planted up with herbs out in the stepped back yard, where there’s also a shed.

No 8 is in perfect order, says the Murray Browne agent, with front garden, gas heating and pvc double glazing. Price guide is €185,000.

VERDICT : Just the ticket.
