Big on all fronts, it fits in about 4,500 sq ft and six bedrooms, on an elevated site of 1.8 acres, and was built by a man in the finance and construction business, working as an accountant with the Durkan Group in Ireland, the UK and US: he says he brought that international expertise to bear on this, his Irish family home, designed in conjunction with architect Kevin Mulcahy.
Barry Nagle of Cork city and Ballincollig-based Global Properties guides the big, rangy home at €675,000, down from an early guide of €690,000 when listed last year with other agents, and he says the market has improved considerably since then.
He has had two recent, smaller Ballinhassig house sales in the c €350/370k bracket, showing demand for this location between Halfway and Crossbarry, accessible to sizeable employers like Schering Plough in Brinny, Eli Lilly in Dunderrow, or at the Airport Business Park.
Interest so far spans consultants to ex-pats, says Mr Nagle, quipping that it is the size of 13 busses. Haven Lodge has all been well-kept, and is bigger on the ground than above, with two large, first floor bedroom; one of them’s en suite, the second adjoins a bathroom which has a Jacuzzi bath, and downstairs are four en suite bedrooms, two each left and right of a corridor down the right hand side of the house, which links to a 450 sq ft garage, which could easily be integrated the main house as a games room, gym or for other uses.
The other ground floor half has a front living rooms 23’ by 13’, a dining room, and the real family space is the 28’ by 14’ kitchen/dining room next to a pagoda-shaped octagonal conservatory.
Heating is via oil, with three zones, and the grounds wrap right around the house, on its sloping, south facing site with panoramic rural views over the Owenabue Valley.
