Basement home in Cork’s Kanturk priced at €375,000

It’s a house and a half, literally, within the town boundary of north Cork’s Kanturk.

Basement home in Cork’s Kanturk priced at €375,000

And this circa 40-year-old US-style, over-basement home, on a sloping site, is priced at €375,000 with sales agent, Anthony O’Regan, of Keane Mahony Smith, who says it has great scope for both home and business use.

“It’s nearly a two-family home,” he says of the two/three-storey property, with self-contained ground level, ideal as a granny flat or some such use, but also with an internal connecting staircase, so that it (and its occupants) aren’t cut off from the main living floors, above.

It was built with distinctive split roof, back in the 1970s, as a builder’s own home and has since changed hands at least once. It has a specification well above the norm for the time, with new kitchen and good bathrooms now too, while the master bedroom has an attractive, period marble/slate fireplace, en-suite bathroom and dressing room.

The house is set more or less in the centre of its site, with compartmentalised gardens, and has an attractive, landscaped private back patio, too, with raised deck seating area.

KMS’s Mr O’Regan says apart from private and extended family use, there’s scope for a home business to be run at ground level, and there’s also the possibility of rental income.

VERDICT: A whole lot of house in Kanturk, accessible to Cork, Mallow and Killarney.
