176-acre farm in Blarney selling for €1.6m

Steady viewing and welcoming vendors have been the order of the day for the substantial, 176-acre Applebe farm at Dawstown, Blarney, which is probably best known as a one-time point-to-point racing location.

It’s due up for auction within a fortnight, having been given a long summer lead-in by Eamonn O’Brien, of CCM, who shrewdly allowed those with an appetite for land to get their finances in order.

And the price of €1.6m is not out of hand, says Mr O’Brien, with an offer now just made close to that amount, which is a comfort, he says, for the vendors, prior to auction at Cork Marts premises at Corrin.

And the good thing about the weather is that all farms are now looking their best, he says.

“We’re after a fantastic summer and farming is a bit like the three-legged stool — it relies on the weather, the price and the land,” says Mr O’Brien.

The 176-acre residential farm, at The Laurels, Dawstown, Blarney, is priced at €1.6m, he says, because, “we’re priced where we’re at in the market”.

A fine, single-block farm in a location close to Cork City, Applebe is sure to be in the sights of a few farmers — it should be a good day out at Corrin Mart on August 20.
