Starter homes: Bunglalow still bliss but needs upgrade

At one stage in the 1970’s, it seemed that everyone wanted to live in a bungalow. One of the most famous books at the time Bungalow Bliss a pattern book for self-builders allowed the ordinary Joe Soap to build a home, cheaply and without the hoopla involved today.

The style became so popular that system-built bungalows like this one, at 13 Monacnappa, became big business and there’s a version currently available with local auctioneer, Humphrey Hogan.

A mere stroll from Blarney village in the quiet location close to the Waterloo walk, this detached house comes with three bedrooms, kitchen/ diner, living room and main bathroom with guest shower room.

It will need a total energy and decorative upgrade, says Hogan, but for all that, it’s offers good space and large grounds, albeit that the back garden is steep. Leafy, mature and private, a new owner could maximise on tax relief in any upgrade.

VERDICT: Ideal starter home.
