Trading up: Bishopstown, Cork €400,000

There’s surge of early interest in 6 Kenley Crescent — because there’s so little else in Cork City’s western suburbs for families wanting a four and five bed detached home.

Auctioneer Jeremy Murphy sold an old-style farmhouse-like five-bed on Curraheen Road before Christmas for €405,000, and now he guides this more modern option at an even €400,000, and says he’s immediately busy with viewings.

“It’s quite a serious house, with a good deal of space, in a fantastic Bishopstown location near services, the school and everything else,” he observes of the detached two-storey, two en suite offering, accessed via

Westgate or Firgrove. It has the community school to the west, and Bishopstown GAA club and pitches are just over the back boundary.

Internally, the house is quite ‘of its time,’ the main living/dining area has over 350 sq ft, with French doors to the back, and there’s a separate lounge, play room and cloakroom. However, new family owners might want to modernise the decor, or go even more open-plan, and windows are single-glazed, so there’s money to be spent. Depending on the buyer, No 6 could be re-done for tens of thousands of euros, or more ambitious extension plans will push the further spend to the six-figure sum mark.
