A classic, Broadale semi with enough space for a growing family, no 61 The Drive is on the market at an attractive guide of €217,000.
And according to June Murphy of Cohalan Downing, it’s a sweet house that has lots to offer — in particular, the location off Maryborough Hill.
The four bed is part of a nice mature group of houses and has been well maintained all along: it also has a fine, walled in garden at the back, according to Murphy.
“This is a very good family home and it’s within an easy reach of the Link roads,” she says.
It comes with an entrance hallway with good wooden floors, a living room with cast iron fireplace leading through double doors to a separate dining room, which has a sliding door to the patio.
The kitchen is fully fitted and extends to 13’ by 12’ — facing towards the back, it could be extended or could be knocked through to the dining area for an economical re arrangement of space. It comes with separate utility and there’s a door to the rear from the side.
Upstairs, four good bedrooms are served by a main bathroom and en suite and there’s a guest bathroom on the ground floor.
Verdict: A little dated in that new owners might add on a new kitchen extension, but otherwise, good to go.

There are even more elevated views than from the adjacent lighthouse over the entrance to Youghal Harbour in east Cork from this 1850s, prominently-sited home.
A new market arrival and in fine fettle for its vintage, this semi-detached home will be well familiar to passersby along the arching Lighthouse Road.
Selling agent Padraig Hyde of Youghal pins a €250,000 asking price on the property, several generations in O’Callaghan ownership, and quips that it now needs a small bit more sculpting for new owners. But, it has period gentility and proportions and an immense, elevated viewpoint as well.
Right now it has pedestrian stepped access only, but as the back garden goes towards the Golf Links Road a new drive could be created behind from this upper road, subject to planning.
Inside, it has two reception rooms, conservatory, kitchen, four beds plus bathroom, all across a decent 1,700 sq ft of space.
Windows are a mix of timber and pvc, and heating sources are also mixed, from open fires to electric storage heating, so a bit of upgrade and standardising on these fronts is likely.
VERDICT: The 23’ long and 6’ wide side gable conservatory and main sitting room have commanding bay and harbour views in this quality old home.

There’s a good deal of house, and a lot of garden/site, with 33 Greenwood, on Cork city’s southern suburbs at Togher. The mid 1900s semi-d is on a cracking good corner site, just the sort of things aspiring city house builders love for one-offs.
Already, a number of similar corner-site properties in Greenwood have built new houses in their garden, replicating good planning practice in general as you’re building in a serviced suburb.
However, the joint agents for No 33, Jeremy Murphy Associates and Keane Mahony Smith, are selling it ‘as-is’, as an executor sale, and while they can make no promises, its seems there’s more in prospect here than a standard semi-d package. It could be ideal for a family who’d like to gift a site in time to a child, or for several generations of a family to live side by side.
The house has a converted garage, making for a possible fourth bedroom, there’s a new ground floor shower room, two reception rooms, kitchen, and a south-facing conservatory overlooking a courtyard. Upstairs are three bedrooms, plus family bathroom.
Verdict:: Already good value at €210,000, the corner site has extra potential and value.

About 60 years old, the bungalow at No 1 Merlyn Lawn probably predates most of the more regular suburban semi-ds built in its hinterland in Cork’s Wilton, and is being viewed mostly now by families on the move.
The 1,600 sq ft home is on a decent, one-fifth of an acre site, and has up to five bedrooms, two at attic level with one en suite. Then, there’s a ground floor sitting room with coved ceiling and 1950s fireplace, a family room with recessed lighting off a kitchen (slightly old fashioned, Belfast sink) via an arch, along with three ground floor bedrooms plus shower room. Most rooms have warm-hued varnished and polished pine floors.
The bungalow status may attract traders down, and the €299,000 price via Jarleth Boyd of Timothy Sullivan Associates puts it within reach of some first-time buyers, but to date viewing is coming in the main from families, says the agent.
In the handy western suburbs near Bishopscourt, it has a westerly aspect, with good, walled-in grounds and a rear yard with outbuildings. The house has character, and clear further potential, and needs a small bit of updating.
VERDICT: Detached, spacious, character, a settled suburb near colleges, schools, shops, etc., along with a sub-€300,000 price. Worth a look.

It’s surprising how much greenery there is around Rossbrook, Bishopstown. And No 89, a new market entrant, faces directly over the playing fields of CIT, where sometimes the Munster rugby team train.
A pretty, well maintained house, this is a classic trading up buy in the western suburbs and is in move-in condition.
It’s on the market with Norma Healy of Sherry FitzGerald who says it’s a beautifully maintained four bed detached home with garage. And, she says, it has those key buyer attributes, plenty of space and a great location.
On the boundary of CIT’s extensive grounds, and at the start of a greenfield walk that runs through Inchigagin to the Lee Fields, Rossbrook is closer to the Lee Road that it is to Bishopstown and is within minutes of County Hall and the city.
A planned Park and Ride at Inchigaggin should smarten the commute considerably and will be a big asset to local residents.
No 89 comes with two living rooms, kitchen with utility room leading to the side and to the garage which is ripe for conversion to a two-storey extension.
The upper level has an en suite master and three other rooms.
VERDICT: Fresh, clean and attractive, with a good walled-in garden to the rear.
