DOWNEEN, near Rosscarbery in west Cork, might just be the place to banish the blues.

Just sold here over the summer on the road to the pretty and safe inlet and pier at Millcove is a blue-painted semi-detached cottage, finding new owners from Britain for a low €200,000s sum via agent Jeremy Murphy.

Hot on the heels of that successful sale is an offering of a detached house, of the same blue hue, with a €270,000 asking price, jointly with Mr Murphy and Pat Maguire.

New to market in the past few weeks, this detached house is on an acre, with sea views which can be considerably improved – if you’ve the wherewithal to knock the house, and replace it with something grander and to a contemporary design palette. Full planning has been secured for a replacement dwelling of about 2,500 sq ft, designed by Deady Gahan Architects.
