Carmel’s the Beara of good tidings ... Kilcaskin’s calling

“THIS lady is all about location, tranquility and pure honest-to-God, good Beara landscape and views,” says estate agent Carmel O’Regan of SWS Property Services, as she brings a do-er up to the market with a tasty sub-€100k asking price.

Carmel’s the Beara of good tidings ... Kilcaskin’s calling

This new-to-market two-up, two-down is at Kilcaskin, Adrigole, on the Beara Peninsula in west Cork. It guides at €95,000 is already under offer and “priced for the new market we find ourselves adapting to,” says the SWS selling agent.

The stone-built compact home (it can’t be much more than 700 sq ft at present) is on half an acre, under Canshonavee and near Glenkeel Lough in a walkers’ paradise, with the Caha mountains alongside.

The area is rich in healthy activities, including walking and a water sports centre. There’s also a thriving local community and resource centre.

The cottage with overhead bedrooms and gable windows has been re-slated, but needs a full make-over for other creature comforts.

“Renovate it, use it and you will never part with it because never again will you get a property like it in this very special part of the Beara Peninsula,” enthuses Carmel O’Regan.

It has mossy old stone walls and mature trees around its boundary, there’s an ESB connection, but a septic tank will be needed, but at the price there should be money left for upgrades.

Ms O’Regan says it looks south and west with distant views of Bantry Bay and Bere Island, about a two-hour spin from Cork city and airport.
