Cleve Hill home is on the up

CLEVE HILL hasn’t appeared on the radar of most house buyers, but give it a year of so, and that will change.

Howard Holdings are set to build a clutch of high-end houses at this enviable address on the Blackrock Road in Cork: expect them to be priced around the €2 million mark, for the best of the bunch on the six acre/€10.7m plot.

Up to now, Cleve Hill has had less than a couple of dozen mid-1900s homes, and many are showing their age. A few have had considerable makeovers, and the few that sold in the past year for the mid to late €500,000s will now get the expensive makeover treatment.

That fate most certainly lies in store for No 4, Cleve Hill, as it comes up for sale with estate agent Brian Olden of Cohalan Downing, who guides this dated but desirable four-bed semi-d at €550,000. Its ‘other half’ or adjoining semi has had a massive transformation, and this home has the potential for a similar step-up.

“It’s an opportunity to create a home of real quality,” says Mr Olden of the new market offering, 20 yards off the city end of the main Blackrock Road and a 15-minute walk to the city centre.

Although the site isn’t terribly large, it has front, side and rear gardens, with a linked garage sitting where any extension is likely to go.

At present, No 4 has a front-to-back 26’ by 11’ reception room, a study, kitchen with pantry, and four overhead bedrooms plus a shower room on one side of the stair return, with a WC on the other side of the steps.
