History’s in the making on ancient estate

HISTORY has its own values — and it can also underpin property worth, as in the case of evocative Dunboy Castle in West Cork.

History’s in the making on ancient estate

The 39 acre estate, with the ruins of the 14th century O’Sullivan Bere Castle and the early 1800s Puxley mansion which feature in Daphne du Maurier’s Hungry Hill and in another work by JA Froude, has an ambitious five-star standard hotel plan drafted for it which could turn the estate into a world-class tourist destination.

Now development proposals are sought to touch lightly on the ruins and capitalise on the moody, beauty, history and the magic of the site on the Beara peninsula.
