Coast to a home in a million

Tommy Barker is entranced by the beauty which surrounds this Spiddal stunner.

Coast to a home in a million

IT is a Galway home in a million - hence the €1 million price expectation. This Kilroe West, Spiddal, home has views up and down the coast, taking in the Aran Islands, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren across Galway bay, and is just 11 miles from the western capital.

That’s why selling agent Martin O’Connor of the DNG network feels it will achieve the expected €1 million, allied to the fact it has up to 10 bedrooms, over 4,000 sq ft of space, and a site of an acre and a half.

It is just a couple of miles from Spiddal village and Inverin airport is a similar distance away, which puts the Aran Islands a quick hop away by plane, if you don’t feel like berthing a curragh beyond the end of the garden by the sandy bathing spot Trá Mór.

Originally built in the mid-1980s, the place has been bulked up considerably in the past few years by its owners, a Galway business family that raised the roof and pushed back the walls, adding balconies to dive for.

There are lawned areas on the western and southern sides, along with an acre field leading down to the seaside, and though there’s a pond and stream, there is still plenty of scope for more landscaping adventures.

Internally, finishes are high and have been recently updated with items like new solid wood doors, while practically every room has a sea view.

Although it has been used as a private family home, the fact that seven of its possible 10 bedrooms are en suite leaves a door open for a B&B enterprise - and two bedrooms have their own balconies for viewing seaside sunrises and sunsets.

“The house is warm and inviting and if you put a guest into one of the south-facing bedrooms with a balcony, you better hope that they do not outstay their welcome as they will be mesmerised by the beauty of the amazing views which constantly change as the day progresses,” says Mr O’Connor.

This rest of the accommodation at this big western home includes two kitchens, two large reception rooms and a dining room, with French doors leading to decked areas, family bathroom and bright hallways.

“This is a stunning house in a stunning area with stunning features,” says Mr O’Connor. “It’s ideally suited as an executive family home only half an hour’s drive to Galway Airport and 20 minutes to Galway city centre.

“It is ideal for entertaining guests in beautiful surroundings and, what’s more, there is no need for a second holiday home by the beach.”
