Victorian charm and harbour views

DESPITE having been built in 1850, this house had been passed on in love and affection down the years and was only put on the market for the first time less than 10 years ago.

Now completely refurbished and in move-in condition, Mount Carmel, on Cobh's High Road, is about to be sold again, through Liz Hannon of English Auctioneers, with a guide price of €675,000.

The three-storey over basement house has great views over the harbour and Whitepoint, and, as the end of a row of three, has lots of privacy and a west-facing aspect.

The house also has some historical connections - Lord Midleton is said to have once installed one of his lady friends in the house.

Well preserved, the house has original sash windows and most of the Victorian finishes remain. The basement area hasn't been fully exploited but could function as a separate flat or work space, says Ms Hannon.

The upper floors include spacious reception rooms, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Oil heating is installed. There is vehicular access at the rear, a patio and garden in front, and pedestrian access from High Road.
