THE push towards period homes in Cobh continues unabated because, simply put, you get more bricks and mortar for your money there.

Buyers lining up for the stock of Victoriana typically come from Dublin and Cork cities, where the genuine article is likely to coste1 million or more.

In Cobh, half that sum or so will buy you a slice of architectural glory - and 1 Riviera Terrace at Rushbrooke, on the way into Cobh town, can be yours for €600,000 or so.

Already under offer at €580,000, it is in fine fettle, says estate agent Johanna Murphy who last sold this five-bedroom, 2,300 sq ft home four years ago.

The big semi, dating to 1860, has three first floor bedrooms plus bathroom and shower room, and two more attic-level bedrooms and store room.

The ground level has buckets of space, with two linked reception rooms, a kitchen, utility, pantry, guest loo and conservatory.

It has lots of original features, like working shutters, fireplaces, plaster work, claw-foot bath, fan light, and wood floors. Some of the sash windows at the front are PVC replacements, but those on the first floor and the back are in wood.

The house has views over Verolme to Monkstown and Ringaskiddy, and has a bright aspect, with most of its gardens to the front.

“About 60% of my buyers come from Cork city for this type of house because of the quality,” says Ms Murphy.
