ROUGHLY €1,000 sought for each of its 300 years of age - what would the original inhabitants of this traditional thatched home make of it?

On the market at a time of high property values and a dwindling scarcity of authentic dwellings, this Ballyduff East, Co Waterford home is at a spot known as Matthew’s Cross close to Kilmeaden village.

With a thatch sloping down at one gable a bit like mullet haircut, this €300,000 offering is on a roadside site of a third of an acre, and is in very good condition for its age, says its selling agent John Rohan in Waterford city some five miles away.

It has been excellently maintained with appropriate old wood sash windows, it has “an ambient dining room”, a sitting room, kitchenette and shower room, with two ground floor bedrooms and a loft bedroom.
