Freshened up in ‘Old Douglas’

THE important, but invisible, work has been done at Willow House. Now, with subsidence tackled by under-pinning, all this detached four-bed home needs is a modernising hand and a freshening up.

Willow House is on Cork’s Cross Douglas Road, where the most recent sale is in the big league: the large period semi Eden Vale on huge grounds made over €1 million.

By contrast, the more modest Willow option across the road, towards the south Douglas road, has a €425,000-plus price quoted by Michael O’Donoghue of McKenna O’Donoghue Clarke auctioneers.

The hinterland is ‘old Douglas,’ albeit a part of the suburbs set for a headline making development in the next year or two when Fleming Construction get on site at Nemo Rangers’ old GAA playing fields.

Although Flemings haven’t gone for planning yet, and are still looking at improving access options, word is that the scheme will be very up-market, not necessarily high density: think Lindville in Ballintemple, but with modern attitude. Rumours on the property grapevine is that they are seeking an access point opposite Belair on the main Douglas road, and several private deals have been negotiated here with unnamed powerful buyers.

Unaffected by all this activity, Willow House has two reception rooms, kitchen/dining room 20’ by 10’ with patio access, four bedrooms and main bathroom. It has a garage, mains services, double glazing and gas central heating - so any further spending needed will be relatively discretion and dependent on a buyers’ own standards.
