Home to double in size

A BROTHER of JP McManus, Gerry McManus and his wife Michelle, have been given permission by An Bord Pleanala to demolish sections of the period property Fedamore House in Co Limerick.

Home to double in size

The rear portions, including back wall staircase, courtyard and outbuildings, are to be removed and replaced by two new wings which will more than double the size of the house.

Also planned at the 19th century country home is a six car garage, relocation of the entrance gates, a swimming pool and all-weather sports arena for five-a-side soccer.

The local authority had granted permission for the changes, subject to 18 conditions but this was appealed to An Bord Pleanala by An Taisce.

The house, previously owned by an American couple, is on 15 acres of land in rolling countryside south of Limerick city, extensively used for rearing cattle and horses.

The proposed development consists of the demolition of much of the rear of the house, stables and outhouses to the rear and the construction of two very large two-storey wings (with a small basement) to the side and rear of the existing house, with an enclosed landscaped courtyard.

A number of other structures are to be built to the rear. These stables (with accommodation) and outhouses, bringing total gross floor area to 2,803 sq m.
