EVOLVING house designs will be the core of the country's housing stock for the next 50 years and more, but more radical changes yet need to be made. And it is imperative that the sprawling suburban approach to development prevalent since the 1960s is reversed.

Higher densities and increased quality design has been a buzzword since the late 1990s, but evidence of delivery on the ground has been slow until now.
