WHAT’S in a name, and what’s in a number?

Buyers will have an a-mewsing choice

Options for whoever buys 20A, Silverdale Grove in Cork’s southside suburb Ballinlough include going with the house number, or reverting to its original name, The Mews.

The two/three-bed detached and wholly private dormer home was built in the grounds of a larger house with good gardens back in the 1980s, and while the deeds call it The Mews, the last buyers were un-amewsed and preferred the simpler address of 20A.

Its next owners will not only get a choice of name, they will also get a choice of room usage.

It could be described as a three-bed home, but with one of these three at ground floor level, it is likely that new owners will make use of this space as a home office. This is what the vendors have done, equipping the compact enough 9’ by 6’ room with a high speed ISDN line.

Other ground floor accommodation includes a good 24’ by 12’ kitchen/dining room which opens to a patio and to the back garden, and a front room 14’ by 11’ which has a feature Kilkenny slate fireplace.

What will have most appeal of all is the absolute privacy that come with the house and gardens, says estate agent Noelle Morrison who gives it a price guide in excess of €220,000.

“It has got the convenience of a park house, without being like a house in a park or estate.”

It has been recently upgraded, with double glazing and gas heating installed, and is ideal for a single person or a couple, and would suit an older person looking for an easily kept home close to all amenities, adds Ms Morrison.

It is within a short distance of Douglas village and its amenities, and Blackrock and the south ring road are also near.
