Bungalow with a touch of Irish

CAN you Irish that for me?

They didn’t have to try too hard to find a name for this Blackrock Road, Cork, niche development: they simply translated it into Irish.

Done with less fuss than name-changing Dingle to An Daingean, Carrig Dubh is one of the earlier, small gated communities off the Blackrock Road.

No 10 here, or uimhir a deich in the vernacular, is a 1970s architect-designed bungalow bought brand new for a trader down decades ago, and now apparently set to reprise the role all over again.

It is a three-bed bungalow, perhaps none too pretty in today’s looks-conscious society, but it does its jobs superbly, says Sophi Palmer of Hamilton Osborne King, who says it has up to 1,500 sq ft of space, definitely more than might appear from without.

It has a long, sheltered back garden (with side access), high walls and a glimpse of stately entrance pillars and a large slated period house beyond, patio, car port and off street parking.

Inside, rooms include an attractive 21’ by 21’ lounge with sloping ceiling, gas inset fire and twins-sets of patio doors, kitchen with garden access, three bedrooms all with built-ins, and main bathroom.

It has aluminium windows and porch, and gas central heating, and carries a price guide of €500,000, easily achievable given the cachet of the address and the likelihood a new owner will be selling up a larger, even more valuable home in the vicinity.
