Readers' Blog: Venezuelan crisis must be resolved by the UN
The use of force against Venezuela has gained much credence by the appointment by US president Donald Trump of Elliott Abrams as his Venezuelan envoy.
This man was Reagan’s right-hand man in the covert US military interference in Central America and was convicted for withholding information to the US Congress.
Later he emerged as one of Bush’s main architects of the disastrous invasion of Iraq. His latest appointment is ominous for the Venezuelan people and the people of the region.
The resolution of the Venezuelan crisis must be resolved under the auspices of the United Nations, not the United States, which, under the erratic leadership of President Trump, lacks international credïbility.
