The Hippocratic oath is one of some 70 Greek medical works which are collectively known as the “Hippocratic collection” and range in date from c 500BC to c 200BC.
It is the earliest surviving declaration of medical ethics in the western world and, therefore, is worthy of consideration today, as we debate the case for the retention or removal of the Eighth Amendment.
