Reader's Blog: Extension of Cork City boundary long fingered

In the light of the Government’s recent disclosure that there will be no change to the existing local representation in either Cork City or Cork County it is plain to see that the extension of the city boundary has been long-fingered and obviously will continue to be. Therefore the real population of the city conurbation will remain hidden from researchers. Cork would do well not to rely upon observations made in the Ireland 2040 document and National Development Plan regarding its progress. The centre (public and private) will continue to block, curtail and/or delay any development that they perceive to be the slightest threat to their total dominance now or in the future. That is quite apparent with Cork Port development, the extension to the airport runway, the events centre, the various roads, the Tivoli Bridge to mention just a recent few.
