The news that Michael O’Leary and Ryanair will recognise pilots’ unions is gratifying and shows what can be achieved when workers have enough traction to gain an advantage for themselves.
Ryanair has been haemorrhaging pilots because of poor working terms and conditions. Eventually, they had O’Leary on the ropes and a threatened strike on the busiest week of the year for air travel was the killer punch.
